RSPCA - The History

The RSPCA was founded in a London coffee shop in 1824 and the people creating it knew it was going to be the UK's first animal welfare charity, but could never imagine how much it would blow up... to the point where it is the single largest animal charity in the country.
It started as simply the SPCA - The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in 1837 they achieved royal patronage and the Queen Victoria allowed them to add the R for 'Royal' at the beginning.
